Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day

Posted On Friday June 21, 2019

On June 21, 2019 the students and staff from St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School gathered at the Big Drum Social in honour of National Indigenous People Day at Esplanade Park, in Pickering. Students and staff embraced Indigenous culture and heritage by visiting the wigwam and fur display. They also participated in traditional dances such as the Circle of Life and listened to performances by Two-Spirit Drum, Durham Region Big Drum and All Our Relations Metis Women’s Hand Drum group.

Students also heard traditional story telling by Darrell LeFrance and watched performances by Hoop Dancers, Stryder Diabo-Tailfeathers and Chance Evans Smith. A great day of learning that honours the heritage and diverse culture of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people.
