Bullying Prevention and Intervention Week and Pink Shirt Day Design Contest

Posted On Monday November 17, 2025
The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) recognizes Bullying Prevention and Intervention Week, which takes place from November 17-24, 2025. Guided by our spiritual theme, Blessed are the Peacemakers (Matthew 5:9), we are inspired by Pope Leo’s call for peace and unity through dialogue and understanding.

Consistent with Pope Leo’s invocation of peace, the DCDSB believes that bullying in any form runs counter to Christ’s message of love, inclusion and respect. During this week, students will be encouraged to take an active role in creating safe and welcoming school communities by becoming upstanders, who speak out and support others, rather than bystanders.

As we focus on being peacemakers, we continue to pray for wisdom and courage to stand up against bullying and foster peace in our schools and communities.

Pink Shirt Day T-Shirt Design Contest
As part of Bullying Prevention and Intervention Week, Durham Catholic District School Board is offering an opportunity to all students to design our new t-shirt for Pink Shirt Day.

To celebrate student voice and creativity, and to honour the pivotal role that students play in bullying prevention, we are inviting students to design a t-shirt to be used to celebrate Pink Shirt Day that incorporates the theme “Kindness Connects Us”. Please see details below for design requirements.

All submissions should be sent to karen.lutz@dcdsb.ca by November 24, 2025. Submissions must indicate the student’s name, grade and school in the subject line of the email.

Winning submissions will be chosen by December 5, 2025.

Technical Requirements:

  • Fits within an 8.5x11” paper size maximum (note: designs may be smaller than this size)
  • Must be submitted digitally in PDF, JPEG or PNG file format
  • Keep in mind that the design will be printed on a pink shirt, so colour choice and design should be made with this in mind
  • Design must be the student’s original work (i.e. no AI generated content, etc.)
  • No copyrighted or trademarked material (e.g., logos, characters) should be included
  • Note that the selected design may need slight adjustments based on the printing requirements

Entries will be assessed by a selection committee, and the winning design will be printed on t-shirts that will be available to purchase in early 2026, in time for the DCDSB community to celebrate Pink Shirt Day on February 25, 2026.
