Peace and Gratitude

Posted On Friday October 10, 2025

Dear Families,

I hope that you have had a wonderful start to the 2025-2026 school year and have had the opportunity to connect with both new and familiar faces among students, staff and families. It has certainly been a blessing to witness the vibrant spirit of faith and academic excellence that defines our Durham Catholic learning community.

As we embrace our new spiritual theme: “Blessed are the Peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9), we are called to be instruments of peace - within our families, our schools, and our communities. Peace begins with gratitude, and as we give thanks this season, we are reminded of the words from Colossians 3:15: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

Thanksgiving offers a moment to pause and reflect on the many blessings in our lives - especially the gift of family, friends, and the shared journey of education and faith. Whether your traditions include gathering around a table, sharing stories, enjoying the fall colours, or simply spending time together, this season invites us to celebrate our relationships, communities, and the power of gratitude.

This time of year is also an opportunity to acknowledge the complicated history of Thanksgiving. If you would like to learn more about ways to engage in Truth and Reconciliation, resources are available on the Indigenous Education page of our website.

I want to thank each of our families for your continued partnership in nurturing inclusive and inspiring faith-filled learning environments to support student success. Together, we are sowing seeds of peace and gratitude that will grow in the hearts of our students.

May this Thanksgiving be filled with the love and gratitude of Christ.

Yours in peace and faith,

Gerard Winn
Director of Education
